It takes two or more to Tango!

Ignition Entertainment have today released some tantalising details of their near-future FPS Blacklight: Tango Down. This Downloadable only game, available in the Summer from XBLA, PSN and PC download, is shaping up to be very interesting indeed.

Featuring a full Unreal 3.0 game engine, Blacklight: Tango Down (BLTD) looks like it could be the most accomplished game yet released via the either of the consoles digital distribution networks.

The game is set around a special operations military group called, unsurprisingly “Blacklight.” Blacklight is the SECDEF’s (Secretary of Defense’s) personal direct action team comprised entirely of “Tier One Assets.”  You will take on the part of one of these elite soldiers who have been recruited from all branches of special operations.

BTD’s storyline, whilst not entirely original, is nonetheless intriguing. Set in a universe where the world has been overtaken by the exploding speed of technological progress. The results of which have created a bleak environment which has transformed once vibrant and familiar cityscapes into dark and endless virtual billboards and danger zones, kind of like a futuristic cross between Time Square and Hackney.

Civilians and governments struggle through ongoing unrest and order can only be imposed through force and fear.

As if this wasn’t bad enough there has been a viral outbreak called “Q-Fever” or SIV (Sentient Insanity Virus).  The virus destroys a person’s humanity, transforming them into frightening creatures that are less capable of utilizing tools but are far more aggressive and impervious to pain, hmm they sound suspiciously like zombies to us. YAY! we love zombies at G4A so let’s hope so!

This is one we will certainly be keeping our eye on and if these screen shots are anything to go by then Blacklight could well be the best XBLA or PSN game to date.

More as we get it but for now here is a gallery of sumptuous screens:

It is a universe that has been overtaken by the exploding speed of technological progress and is left suffering from the unbridled failures that those advances create.

The technological overbuild has created a bleak environment which has transformed once vibrant and familiar cityscapes into dark and endless virtual billboards and danger zones.  An ongoing viral epidemic ravages society and the military’s drive to control and use the virus as a weapon has only created more devastating strains.  Civilians and governments struggle through ongoing unrest.  Order can only be imposed through force and fear.

The military’s attempts to weaponise the virus has lead to what some call “Q-Fever” or SIV (Sentient Insanity Virus) and the people it infects are known as SIVs.  The virus destroys a person’s humanity, transforming them into frightening creatures that are less capable of utilizing tools but are far more aggressive and impervious to pain.
