Beyond Good & Evil

With the nights drawing in and the year coming to its conclusion we at G4A are seriously suffering from the winter blues. Luckily, news has reached us which has warmed our hearts.

One of our all-time favourite games Beyond Good & Evil is having an HD make-over for release on PSN/XBLA sometime next year. This action adventure received critical acclaim when originally released back on 2003 and despite appearing on Ps2, Xbox, PC and Gamecube the game never really received the audience it so richly deserved. As such a sequel never materialised although in 2008 Ubisoft did show off a teaser trailer that hinted a sequel was in development. Since then there has been no further news.

You play Jade a human who sets out on a quest to free her people on the planet of Hyllis after it is placed under siege by an alien race. Despite the government assuring the people that the planet has been secured  Jade begins to suspect that there’s more to these invasions than meets the eye. Jade sets off on a quest to uncover the truth.

Armed with her camera, aikido staff, and various characters to help her on her quest including a pig! Jade sets out to expose the truth and to liberate the minds of her deceived people. Pushed to the very edge of her physical and spiritual will, she soon discovers that even these limits are not what they seem … Her quest for the truth knows no bounds.

Hopefully this new HD version of the original will open the game up to a whole generation and catapult this wondrous title up to where it should be. Hopefully then, us devoted fans can finally get the sequel we have been crying for, for seven years!

Another title coming from Ubisoft for PSN and XBLA in 2011 is the stunning-looking Outland. A side-scrolling 2D platformer with a unique art-style and tons of action we are very glad that games developers have reignited this genre with such gusto.

Exact details are scarce at present as to the plot but we have managed to get our hands on this rather stunning video so feast you eyes and lick your lips.

Outland is scheduled for 2011. We, of course, will bring you more news as we get it.

The sequel to Beyond Good and Evil is still very much on and in development, Ubisoft confirmed this at E3 this year after fears it had been cancelled. Michel Ancel the original developer is working with a very small team to maintain the games artistic credibility and has basicallly said the game will be ready when its ready. I’m guessing that this HD re-release of the orignal is to help drum up interest for the sequel when it is finally released.
