Sony Offer Cheap Knock Offs!

As written yesterday by Blogger Moonhead Sony have indeed confirmed that the cheaper PS3 will soon be the only PS3. This essentially means no card reader, no backwards compatibility with PS2, only 2 USB ports and a 40GB Hard drive! So they have cut the number of playable titles on PS3 by about 5000 and made the HD smaller, just to knock £50 off the price? Sony just do not seem to be able to decide exactly what to do with the machine that they told us “We will all have to work a bit harder to own one!” For me this smacks of desperation to try to get the price down and get the machine to have a foothold in the market. Will a £299 retail price be enough to convince buyers to take up the new platform when there is no big exclusives out before Christmas? Only time will tell!

Manhunted Out Of Existence!

In news away from Sony the British Board of Film Classification has again denied to allow the release of Manhunt 2 even though Rockstar has censored the original version of the game. In a statement the BBFC said ““We recognise that the distributor has made changes to the game, but we do not consider that these go far enough to address our concerns about the original version. The impact of the revisions on the bleakness and callousness of tone, or the essential nature of the gameplay, is clearly insufficient. There has been a reduction in the visual detail in some of the ‘execution kills’, but in others they retain their original visceral and casually sadistic nature. We did make suggestions for further changes to the game, but the distributor has chosen not to make them, and as a result we have rejected the game on both platforms. The decision on whether or not an appeal goes ahead lies with the distributor.” Basically saying, sorry but your game just is too nasty! Rockstar, naturally, have already begun to appeal the decision.

Nintendo: Taking The Wii

Industry analysts have made a significant discovery that should seriously worry bot Microsoft and especially Sony. According to Screen Digest, developers are moving towards the Wii rather than the 360 or PS3. The reasons stated are, Nintendo’s growing installed user base and the relatively low cost of developing for the platform in comparison to the two 256bit machines. The report goes on to say that in Q4 of 2007 publisher commitment has shifted significantly towards the Wii with 86 titles scheduled for release, compared with 47 for the Xbox 360 and 38 for PlayStation 3. A quarter of Wii releases are exclusive to the platform – compared with eight for the Xbox 360 and five for Playstation 3. The wars have truly begun!

You are not going to beleive this one, Sony are now planning to release the long rumoured 80gb version out here sometime next year at a higher price point than the soon to be obsolete 60gb version. As far as I’m concerned Sony have completely lost the plot and do not have a clue what they are doing.

I just hope that the 86 Wii titles in development are not the half baked shovelware PS2 conversions that we have had to put up with so far this year.
