Sony celebrates bumper Christmas!!

News reaches us from Sony that PS3 sales over the festive season retail sales of  Playstation 3’s during the five-week span of Christmas exceeded 3.8 million units worldwide. The PS3 experienced a 76% increase in hardware sales compared to the same period in the previous year, marking the highest record sales for PS3 hardware for a holiday period.

Sales were boosted by the release of the new slimmer and lighter PS3 and finally a list of truly excellent games such as Uncharted 2.  PlayStation Network, now also has more than 38 million registered accounts worldwide, although this number is a little skewed as on my PS3 alone there are 3 accounts, only one of which ever really gets used.

Still, with some big exclusive releases due for 2010 and the new (whisper it) Motion Controller Sony finally looks like getting in the game!

Have you seen that naughty MAG?

In more Sony news the Beta on MAG is now live on PSN. This huge 256 player shooter is getting FPS fans all hot under the collar. Having played it I can safely say it is shaping up very nicely, the graphics are excellent and I detected no slowdown at all. But don’t expect to get your hands on it quickly though as the download is huge and takes ages so be prepared. However it is worth the wait.

Still, I remember the days if someone said “Check out this MAG!” it would mean something very different!

Castlevania is Reborn on Wii

Out now on WiiWare is Konami’s update to their much-loved side-scroller  Castlevania.

Castlevania: ReBirth, to give it its full title has been given a bit of spit and polish which Konami are calling a ‘regenerated’ version of the classic game set in Transylvania. Players assume the role of Christopher Belmont, who is tasked to restore order to the universe before Dracula and his foes take over. Equipped with the legendary whip, players must locate upgradable weapons and holy water to fend off vampires and reach Dracula’s lair in order to dethrone him once and for all.

Castlevania: ReBirth is available now for 1000 Wii points.

Warning: Hazard!

Released today on XBL and PSN is the return of a true video game icon. Matt Hazard is back in Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond from D3Publisher.

In classic side scrolling shooter form Matt Hazard is back on a quest to save his 8bit self from destruction. General Neutronov, one of Matt’s nemeses has reactivated all of Hazard’s greatest enemies from classics like Matt’s original adventure, The Adventures of Matt in Hazard Land and Chest of the Pirate Queen in an attempt to destroy Matt’s former self in the past and end his present. Matt has no time for a leisurely stroll down memory lane in Blood Bath and Beyond as he chases Neutronov through the games of the past in order to save his future.

Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond is available today for 1200 Microsoft points or £11.99 on PSN.

Capcom still on Wii Oui?

Capcom Europe have released a statement following comments written on French games website GameKult! According to the website  Capcom France boss Antoine Seux claimed that Capcom see’s its future away from the Wii and concentrating on PS3 and Xbox. Capcom have moved to distance themselves from the remarks by issuing the following statement, “Further to comments made in a recent article on French website Gamekult, Capcom would like to confirm its commitment as a multi-platform developer and publisher of interactive software.” I would say a whack across the knuckles for Monsieur Seux will also be forthcoming! They were also rumoured to be saying something that sounded very similar to Gamekult!
