Top Selling Retail games of 2010

2010 was a curious year for the gaming industry with predictable sales figures showing the current trend amongst the buying public. Below we have listed the top selling games of the year firstly the multi-format chart then a breakdown of the individual machines. Interestingly none of the top three made into the top ten of our GoTY awards with our Game of The Year, Red Dead Redemption coming in at four. Predictably the flawed Call of Duty: Black Ops came in at number one and FIFA 11 came in at number two proving that the public is as sheep-like as ever. In fact only two of our top ten made it into the ten biggest selling games of the year. Obviously we realise that readers of G4A are far more discerning…

  • 01 Call of Duty: Black Ops – Activision (PS3, 360, PC)
  • 02 FIFA 11 – EA (PS3, 360, PC)
  • 03 Just Dance – Ubisoft (Wii)
  • 04 Red Dead Redemption – Rockstar (PS3, 360)
  • 05 Wii Fit Plus – Nintendo (Wii)
  • 06 Just Dance 2 – Ubisoft (Wii)
  • 07 Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood – Ubisoft (PS3, 360)
  • 08 Wii Sports Resort – Nintendo (Wii)
  • 09 Halo: Reach – Microsoft (360)
  • 10 Battlefield: Bad Company 2 – EA (PS3, 360, PC)

Nintendo Wii:

  • 1. Just Dance (Ubisoft)
  • 2. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo)
  • 3. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft)
  • 4. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo)
  • 5. New Super Mario Bros WII (Nintendo)

Mario Galaxy 2 not getting  look in on the top five *sigh*

Sony PlayStation 3:

  • 1. Call Of Duty: Black Ops (Activision)
  • 2. FIFA 11 (EA)
  • 3. Gran Turismo 5 (Sony)
  • 4. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar)
  • 5. Assassins Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft)

PS3 sales were as predictable as an episode of Eastenders.

Microsoft Xbox 360:

  • 1. Call Of Duty: Black Ops (Activision)
  • 2. FIFA 11 (EA)
  • 3. Halo: Reach (Microsoft)
  • 4. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar)
  • 5. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft)

It is interesting that the 360 sales were almost the same as the PS3 with the first party titles of GT5 and Halo Reach both coming in third in the list.

Nintendo DS:

  • 1. Professor Layton And The Lost Future (Nintendo)
  • 2. New Super Mario Bros (Nintendo)
  • 3. Art Academy (Nintendo)
  • 4. Pokemon Soulsilver (Nintendo)
  • 5. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo)

A Nintendo clean sweep on the DS.

Sony PSP:

  • 1. FIFA 11 (EA)
  • 2. LittleBigPlanet (Sony)
  • 3. Gran Turismo (Sony)
  • 4. Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines (Ubisoft)
  • 5. FIFA 10 (EA)

FIFA 10 and 11 in the top five and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker not getting a look in? We despair!

Well there you have it, proof that the general buying public are morons. All those great games outshone by trade names and flashy adverts. Hopefully with the mass amount of quality titles in 2011 we might see some better games in the sales figures for the end of this year. Although FIFA 12 will still be up there no matter how crap it is, Official Playstation mags assured 10/10 review should help eh? Cynical us? No!
