Pinball FX2 – Epic Quest Table – Zen Studios

Frequent dwellers of the Game4anything house of goodness will know we have been ardent fans of Zen Studio’s Pinball FX series. The constant high level of tables that are released for the game is nothing short of excellent.

Now Zen studios aim to do something that little bit different with the launch of their latest table Epic Quest. The idea is to blend the classic pinball style with some RPG elements. What? I hear you cry but wait fair adventurers for this tale has a happy ending.

At first glance this seems like a standard Pinball FX2 affair with a stunning looking table, but underneath there is much more going on. You play Max, a knight and it is your job as noble adventurer to rescue maidens, defeat monsters and, well earn as much loot as you can. You gain experience points and any XP and loot earned will be carried over to your next game. This can be used to upgrade your character and ease the battles against your foes.

The table is set up with three flippers, two in the standard position and one near the top left of the table. In true Pinball FX style, an animated version of Max stands on the left hand side of the table ready to do battle with evil foes. Throughout the game he will make hero-like quips that add to the atmosphere created by the table. On the opposite side of the table is the theatre where small animations play to show what is happening in the quest. These generally are the prelude to a battle against one of the foes like Major Wolf, Bully Bandit or Ogre. To do battle you will need to hit the ball up the ‘sword ramp’ and then into the ‘smash’ bumper. Across the bottom of the table are two power bars, your enemies and yours. Hitting the sword and/or the smash will act as hits against the enemy and will deplete the enemies power bar and ultimately to victory.

As in any good adventure game you can level up. This means better chance to vanquish the monsters. The added incentive to keep coming back to earn more XP and level up Max adds depth to what is essentially a pick-up-and-play title.

Overall Epic Quest is another triumph from Zen Studios and adds to an already impressive set of tables for Pinball FX 2. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

The Epic Quest table is available for 240 MS Points.
